The FIDE World Chess Championship held in the premises of EXPO2020 has ended in Dubai. The winner, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen (7.5 – 3.5) has defeated the Russian Grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi. In Dubai, Carlsen has successfully defended his World Champion title for the fifth time. Under a partnership agreement between Chateau La Grace Dieu des Prieurs and the FIDE (International Chess Federation), the winner of the World Championship has received a special prize from the Russian Chess Federation – a chess case containing the 2015 collection of Art Russe wines by Chateau La Grace Dieu des Prieurs.

The Chateau designed its wine-and-chess box in 2014 as a tribute to the ancient intellectual game, bringing together the arts of chess, painting and winemaking. The elegant wooden box with a chessboard lid, containing six bottles of the famous Saint-Emilion wine with Russian art on the labels, comes complete with a set of chess pieces handmade to a custom design. The idea for the set design comes from the winery owner Andrei Filatov, who considers himself a disciple of Jean Nouvel in the field of design and architecture. Jean Nouvel is one of the world’s most renowned architects and the man behind the Chateau La Grace Dieu des Prieurs architectural reconstruction project, as well as the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the National Museum of Qatar and others. The wine-and-chess box of Chateau La Grace Dieu des Prieurs is currently competing in A’ Design Award, the world’s largest international design competition.

The opening ceremony of the FIDE 2021 World Chess Championship took place on November 24 at the Dubai Opera House, with the first game held on November 26 in the EXPO2020 premises. Under the corresponding agreement with the FIDE, the wine-and-chess box from Chateau La Grace Dieu des Prieurs and the Art Russe wine collection are presented in the Championship’s VIP and Very VIP lounges.
